[In Development] [Doom 2] The Craven

Also Craven, your map is looking pretty good. I'd have to agree with him on the plasma at the end. A good way to fix that is to either remove it, move it to a secret, or rebalance the fight to make it make sense for it. -

Thank you for choosing that midi for the map! It seems to fit on this one pretty well. This midi was originally for the ultimate midi pack with @continuum.mid (shout out to him for the critiques he gave me on it as I was writing it, helped me out a lot with self critique for my midis going forward as well!). @Tangra, thank you for making this video to show off the map. I wasn't sure which one he used for it, I just remember sending him a pack of my midis lol Cayote, let me know if there's any others you'd like to use, It's fun to see how people interpret my midis when selecting them for maps :D -
never thought it about that way. I still have my opinions on the matter, but I do tend find a lot of wads just hard to play, not from being difficult, but because I just didn't find them fun or whatever doesn't mean they're bad necessarily. However funnily enough some of my favorite wads tend to be some of the most bland. I must have bad taste cuz one of my favorite slaughter maps is "Revenant Battleground." It's got a simple premise and it can be a bit tricky to get right.

MTL_MN_LVS_EP1.zip Made some changes to Map 3, still need to fix some things on map 5. @DoomGuy999 on map 4, please pay attention to how map 3 ends and map 5 begins for the starts and ends of your levels, please. I want to try and make each map feel like it connects to the other ones.

I mean I've played a few already. Valiant, Scythe 1/2, BTSX 1/2, and eviternity got super tedious really quick for me. Honestly I'm just trying to improve so I can play sunlust on UV, but I'm really scared about it honestly (cuz I suck at playing doom lol). That's the one I think was super fricken cool overall. Difficult or not, it's really impressive how they interweaved gameplay into complex visuals. It's actually a great example of what I look for.

okay apologies to everyone on this post then as well. It was uncalled for. I will be more careful about what I post about in the future from here on out.
-
yeah, that one's on me. Sorry about that bud.
-
eh, never tried actually. I've not released much to the doom community as it is. and as a single map that could have at least been in the running:
-
I still believe it is all about the gameplay and visuals are only there to facilitate that gameplay.
-
you know, for the ones who read it and the ones who didn't. I apologize, that was rather rash of me to say. It is true that they work hard for the community. I would feel really shitty if someone said something like that about my midis. So again, I apologize for the remark.

and if you're a mapper, excellent things can be learned about detailing as well. It is true that the cacoawards have picked some very pretty map sets. especially for their times.
-
that's a fair point, but bioshock is actually able to deliver a story unlike doom wads, so it really just comes down to gameplay and presentation.
-
Dreamskull is right, it's best for you to get your own opinion of them yourself and not let anyone allow you to make the decision of whether or not it is good.

No I just think that they let personal feelings cloud their judgment often. I'd rather not go into specifics.
